Team Bath Judo Club's Megan Fletcher and Andy Burns will be looking to replicate their British Championship success when they compete in the inaugural European Open this weekend. Fletcher will represent her country in the women's under-70kg division, the weight she struck British gold in last week, while silver-medalist Burns is in the men's under-90kg category. It will be a step into the unknown for the duo as the European Open – which was formerly known as the World Cup but has been rebranded – will see the International Judo Federation's new rules being implemented for the first time. Fletcher will join a six-strong British women's team in Sofia, Bulgaria, while Burns and his international team-mates will be in action in Tbilisi, Georgia. Team Bath will also have two representatives at this weekend's Belgium Open in Vise, with five-time European Cup medallist Tom Reed selected for the under-81kg category. Ben Fletcher, Megan's younger brother, will join fellow rising star Philip Awiti-Alcaraz in the under-100kg division after winning a silver medal at last week's British Championships.
