Bath resident Julia Cockroft needs your donations to help open a second-hand furniture shop in aid of Alzheimer's Research UK.

The shop, on Third Avenue, Bath, will be the first shop in the UK to donate directly to the charity.

It could be ready to open on Wednesday, but at the moment it needs more donations.

Ms Cockroft, 53, decided to set up the shop as her mum Anne Blacker has Alzheimer's and is cared for at a nursing home in Bathwick.

She said: "I was going to see her every week and feeling depressed and thinking 'what can I do?' I had a little bit of money saved up and I thought I would use the cash to open this shop.

"At the moment it's a little bit limited, so I'm really worried that the shop will be ready and I won't be able to open it."

Alzheimer's Research UK is the UK's leading dementia research charity specialising in finding preventions, treatments and a cure for dementia.

Ms Cockroft needs small furniture, including shelves, lamps, tables and chairs to help make the shop a success.

She said: "I've run a school, I've run a bar, but I've never run a shop. First of all donate, and then come and buy something.

"Donations are welcome and if it's anything that's from an older person who can't bring it down, I can pick it up.

"Alzheimer's Research literally researches into the care of people with Alzheimer's, stem cell research, the rest of it, so it's really important."

Visit the shop at 40 Third Avenue, Bath, BA2 3NY.
