Avon County's Molly Churchman and Bria Keen made it a hat-trick of national titles in 2014 when they dominated the girls' junior 14 double sculls event at the British Rowing Championships.
After a time trial to seed a field of more than 20 crews at the National Watersport Centre at Holme Pierrepont in Nottingham, they successfully negotiated their semi to face a six-boat final including top crews from Marlow and Maidenhead.
After a minute of the 2,000m race all six were in contention but with an initial attack at the 250m mark the Avon duo opened a lead of about one length, which they maintained up to halfway.
They then made their most important tactical change with increases to both pressure and rate which completely demoralised their opposition and opened up a three-length margin.
The Avon lead kept growing and they crossed the line in 7mins 59secs – just outside the event record despite having raced into a headwind. It was quicker than the winning time in the junior 15 event which followed them down the course.
This success completed a classic rowing junior treble for Churchman and Keen as it followed outright victories at the National Schools' Regatta and National Sculling Head, where they combined with Avon's Emily Martin and Carla May to take the girls junior 15 quads event.
The British Championships also saw strong junior 15 performances from the three other Avon double sculls, with Ellies Hills and McCormack finishing tenth, Nick Selman and Curtis Grainger 11th in the boys' event and Emily Martin and Carla May racing to second spot in the C final.
