Paul Wade took the honours in Lansdown's midweek stableford when he came in with 40 points. Division 1 was topped by Bryan Lindsay with 39 points after he shot a two-under-par gross round. He pushed Patrick Harrison into second place on countback, withTerry Pocock a shot behind in third. Steve Jackson won Division 2 with 39 but also required countback to beat Eric Morgan. Gordon Beavis claimed third spot with 37. Adam Goodridge took second place in Division 3 with 39, with Richard Sardo one further point back. Jane Belsten won the silver division of the ladies' Queens Medal with a nett 74, just one shot ahead of Millie Parker. The bronze division was decided on countback as both Margaret Ruxton and Tegwen Hopkins both came in with nett 71s. Lansdown ladies have reached the semi-final in two Somerset events. Shirley Gooding and Amelia Matthews are competing for the Centenary Plate while a team of seven ladies are now in the semi-final of the Rogers Cup. Having accounted for a strong team from Burnham and Berrow, Lansdown completed a 5- 2 victory over Mendip Springs at Oake Manor and will take on the Isle of Wedmore in the semis. Meanwhile, the men have reached the quarter-final of the Gloucestershire Presidents Cup after beating Lilley Brook 3-2. Malcolm Brown and Ken Madden got Lansdown off to a flying start by winning their match 4&3 – a feat repeated by the pairing of Steve Maddison and Dan Nicholas. However, the contest was decided on the 18th as Ian Carter and Roland Jenkins won on the final green to take their side through to the next round. The first three teams all scored 44 points in the Irish Day betterball competition. Andy Pothecary and Buck Bessex came out on top, pushing Stewart Mould and Barry Frayling into second spot with George Blackburn and Paddy Jefferies coming third. Frayling took the prize for nearest the pin in two on the 18th. The next four teams all came in with 43 points. Fourth spot went to Rob Jenkins and Joe Long, just edging out last year's captain Neil Pirie and his playing partner Mike Tippet, who also won the nearest the pin prize on the tenth. John Jotcham and Paul Maidment came sixth to edge Jeremy Guscott and Rob Braund just out of the prizes. Club captain Joe Garry was delighted with the support the event received. The junior open, which acts as a Daily Telegraph qualifier, is being held on August 11. To book a place contact Terry Mercer on 01225 422138.
