Alasdair Campbell fights back to share spoils with Brian Woodford at Bath Approach

Alasdair Campbell staged a fine recovery against Brian Woodford to earn a draw that keeps him out of the seniors' Division 1 relegation places. Woodford was three up at the turn and two ahead after the 16th but Campbell fought back to draw level on each occasion, with a birdie at the last securing a share of the spoils. Malcolm French also boosted his chances of avoiding the drip with a win over Brian Allen. The contest was all over on the 14th after French took a four-hole lead into the back nine. Reg Morris made it eight league wins out of eight against Terry Selway, who found pars hard to come by. Morris was five up at the turn, won the first two holes coming back and halved the next in a comfortable success. Ingrid Doherty earned her best Division 2 win of the season against table-topping Lionel Smith. Doherty was one down at the turn but won four of the first five holes coming back and was victorious on the 16th. Craig Jones achieved his best score of 64 but it proved only just enough to see off Mike Hazel. The pair finished seven and five under nett par respectively but Jones needed to win the 18th after Hazel wiped out his three-hole advantage. Danny Peel came from two down with two to play to square his contest with Ann Fear. George Thurston eased to a comfortable success over Brian Lambern, winning four holes in a row on the back nine to seal victory on the 15th. Dave Ferebee secured an excellent win over Nick Parker to draw level with his opponent and three others at the top of the table. Ferebee was two up at the turn and came back in one over par to win with three holes to spare. Holder Mike Fear carded a two-over-par round to beat John Sercombe and reach the Knockout Shield semi-finals. Fear gathered eight pars to lead by six holes at the turn and won with four remaining. Roger Randall maintained his chances of qualifying from Group E of the Secretary's Cup with a convincing victory over Division 1 opponent Sue Norris. Randall won the first five holes and settled the contest with four to play.
