Golden oldies Arnold Cooke and Klaus Riekemann bagged four victories apiece as Minerva Bath sent a squad of seven to the World Rowing EuroMasters Regatta in Munich. The decorated duo entered a number of events and won gold in the H2-, H4-, H4 and G8. In the first three, they not only took the top time in their heat but overall, beating teams from Germany, the USA, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Hungary and an international composite from Latvia, Russia and Lithuania. In the H4+/- Cooke and Riekemann rowed in their usual composite crew with Tony Stokes ( Broxbourne) and Tim Lincoln (Henley). The winning G8 was also a composite with Tideway Scullers, Broxbourne and Henley. A Minerva women's 4+ of Jane Giddins, Jocelyn Nichols, Sue Hamilton, Rosie Capetti and cox Helen Cooke rowed well in an international field as a Latvian crew took gold. Back in Britain, Minerva enjoyed another successful regatta on the River Severn at Bewdley. Twelve crews raced across the weekend in sweltering conditions. The most heroic effort came from Nic Hayward and Margaret Cooke, who raced nine times. They won all six of their IM3 double scull races to top the category on both days. Hayley Sewell, Elaine Hoyes, Heather McKibben and Hilary Strickland, coxed by Mark Melbourne, won the vet C category on Saturday. The quartet were then joined by Sarah Moon and Laura Cowan for victory in a head-to-head clash with local rivals Avon County in the eight on Sunday. Sister double act Roisin and Sian Cogan stormed to victory in their double scull and earned a dip in the river for losing their novice status. Anthony Hammond won in his single scull, his first time racing solo without his usual partner Toby. Minerva's IM3 crew of Ian Hitchens, Glen Sullivan, Andy Rogers and James Mann, coxed by Andy Carson, ended a dramatic first race in a dead heat. They were narrowly beaten across the finish line by a third of a length after a re-row. After losing their novice status at Ironbridge Regatta Siobhan Tuohy, Vicki Wheeler, Kayleigh Weaver and Tania Reynolds won their first ever race at IM3 level, only to lose out to eventual victors Ironbridge crew in the next round. Women's captain Moon said: "I am extremely proud of everything the squad has achieved. "Minerva Bath truly are a force to be reckoned with."
