Sophie Papps labelled her Commonwealth Games debut "incredible" after progressing to Monday night's women's 100m semi-finals (7.10pm).
Papps, who moved to Bath to work with coach Dan Cossins this year, finished third in her heat in 11.53secs.
She said: "I'm so pleased. I've had a hard year. I spoke to my coach on the phone last night and he said it's not been easy but you've got the chance now. So it hasn't turned out that bad in the end.
"To run out there was incredible. Every time you run you want to run your best. I just haven't been doing that this year.
"My PB is from two years ago, I'm pleased and I hope I can run faster tomorrow. I know things that went well in that race and things that didn't go well.
"I've got another opportunity tomorrow and I will remember what to do right and what not to do."
City of Bath College student Leon Reid, running for Northern Ireland, suffered a disqualification in heat three of the men's 100m.
