St Stephen's girls retained their regional Kwik cricket crown with a memorable triumph at Gloucestershire CCC's County Ground.
The team, comprising of Year 5 and 6 pupils, headed for the South West showdown in Bristol as Somerset champions and were up against the cream of the crop from Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, the Isle of Wight, Hampshire, Berkshire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire.
The beat the Cornish winners in their opening pool match but then lost to a side from Hampshire. However, they had done enough to qualify for the semi-finals, scoring five more runs than their rivals after the three teams in the group finished level on points.
St Stephen's were pitted against the side they beat in the county final, Crockerne, in the last four and overcame them in less nail-biting circumstances.
Some quick scoring took St Stephen's to a total of 289-1 in the final against Hampshire champions Fair Oak. The Southampton side were restricted by some accurate bowling and scored 235-8 in reply.
That meant St Stephen's won the regional title for the second successive year, repeating their triumph at Hampshire CCC in 2013.
Evelyn captained a squad that included Alexi, Iris, Evie G, Mimi, Molly, Marina,Rosie, Mackenzie, Annabel and Katie, with coaching provided by Grant Sheppard and Kenny James of Bath CC.
Girls' after-school cricket sessions on Mondays have attracted 45 pupils throughout the year.
St Stephen's physical education coordinator Rowan Overeynder said: "It is a fantastic achievement by the girls. All day they were focused and played and supported each other.
"However, we must not forget the girls we left behind, who during the course of the year have really pushed for a place in the team.
"While retaining the trophy is just wonderful and we are so proud of the girls, we are also really proud of all the girls who since September have made the after school club so enjoyable and fun."
The boys' competition also involved 12 teams and saw Bathwick St Mary represent Somerset.
Bathwick won both of their pool matches but, after a couple of close umpiring calls, their fine run in the comprtition was ended by North Petherton in the semi-finals.
