CRICKET REPORT: Nailsea 3rd XI 151-6 Timsbury 3rd XI 142-9 (Nailsea won by nine runs)

Timsbury 3rds were narrowly beaten in an entertaining game, reduced to 30 overs a side after heavy rain.

With moisture in the pitch, the visitors elected to bowl first upon winning the toss and Tom Parfitt's accuracy was rewarded with the early wicket of opener Bennett for no score.

Two wickets for skipper Ashley Davis (2-22) and one apiece for Sol Thompson (1-20) and Ed Belson (1-25) gave Timsbury a strong position at the mid-point of the innings.

However, Nick Jervis (58no) and Adrian Procter added 58 quick runs for Nailsea's sixth wicket before the latter was caught by Davis in the deep off Sam Hoddinott.

Chasing 152 for victory, the Timsbury reply was dealt an early blow with the quick loss of openers Mark Goodchild and Hoddinott but a typically explosive innings of 34 from Matt Ball kept the visitors up with the required rate.

Once he was out, George Brinkworth kept the runs flowing with a well-played 30 but two quick run-outs hindered the chase.

Despite ten runs coming from the final two balls of the innings, including a huge six from last man Russell Smith, Timsbury fell just short of their target.
