James Dyson Foundation success for Bath's young engineers

Schoolchildren have been showing off their use of 3D printers which has been made possible thanks to a £75,000 grant from the James Dyson Foundation.

Pupils at Hayesfield, Ralph Allen, Wellsway, Writhlington and Chew Valley have been involved in a two-year partnership programme to bring cutting-edge design and technology equipment into the classroom.

The youngsters met Lord Nash, from the Department for Education, as well as trustees from the James Dyson Foundation, during an event at Hayesfeld to showcase their work.

Andrew Young, who teaches the Dyson project work at Hayesfield, said the project was already proving to be a success, with more students opting for subjects such as engineering for their GCSE courses.

He said: "The day was a great success and was a tribute to the design and technology faculties at all five schools and most of all to our students, many of whom I hope will go on to become designers and engineers."
