Football gossip ahead of Germany v Argentina World Cup Final

Netherlands winger Arjen Robben fully believes Germany will lift the World Cup tonight. The 30-year-old helped his country to third place, after beating hosts Brazil 3-0 in the third/fourth place play-off on Saturday night. Tonight's final kicks off at 8pm and is live on BBC One and ITV.

New Manchester United manager Loius van Gaal believes striker Robin Van Persie, 30, can captain the club. The striker has been at Old Trafford for two seasons, having left Arsenal to join United for £24m in 2012. Van Persie handed his World Cup medal to a dutch supporter just moments after being presented with it by Fifa president Sepp Blatter last night.

Argentina right-back Pablo Zabaleta has said his country's team will not follow the same thrashing against Germany in the World Cup final as Brazil did in the last round. The 29-year-old Manchester City player is demanding his side stay focused for the final.

Brazil players will not be happy to know that, should they have won the World Cup, each player would have earned around £2m each.

In transfer news Argentina winger Angel Di Maria, who has been linked with Arsenal, is thought to reject an offer from Manchester United worth £150,000 a week.

France international defender Eliaquim Mangala, 23, is close to joining Manchester City from Porto.

Van Gaal has openly said the Robben is more than welcome to join him at Manchester United. The 62-year-old has finished his duties as Netherland's manager.

United also remain linked with Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, 27, and Germany internationals Mats Hummels and Marco Reus, both 25.
