Amy Williams joined David Beckham and a host of A-listers from the world of sport in the Royal Box on Wimbledon's middle Saturday.

The Bath-based 2010 Winter Olympic champion and Lizzy Yarnold – who succeeded her this year – were both in attendance, along with University of Bath graduate and Paralympic skiing gold medallist Kelly Gallagher and former swimmer Mark Foster, who trained in the city at the height of his career.

The guest list on Centre Court read like a who's who of British sport. Beckham, who was accompanied by mum Sandra, grabbed most of the attention.

Sirs Bobby Charlton, Matthew Pinsent and Bradley Wiggins, Victoria Pendleton, Nicola Adams, Chris Robshaw, Andrew Strauss, Tom Daley and Ian Poulter were also at SW19, as was Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.

Rain stopped play elsewhere at the All England Club, but under the Centre Court roof three former champions progressed to the second week of the tournament. Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer beat Mikhail Kukushkin and Santiago Giraldo respectively, while Maria Sharapova proved too strong for Alison Riske.
