Do you recognise this van? Police appeal after 85-year-old Bath man charged £7,000 for shoddy roofing work

An 85-year-old Bath man was charged almost £7,000 for roofing work in a suspected rogue trader scam. Police have released two photographs of the van involved in the incident, in the hope of tracing the men behind the work. They believe its occupants may be involved in other so-called rogue trader cases across Bath and in Devon and Cornwall, where people were persuaded to pay large amounts for shoddy or unfinished work. The elderly Bath victim called the scaffolding company to fix his leaking roof at the end of March. Five men arrived in the white Ford Transit van and a blue Peugeot estate car on the morning of March 28. They told him the work was worse than first thought and he agreed to pay two cheques totalling £6,950. When they left, after five days, he found that the roof was still leaking but was unable to contact the company again to ask them to return. Anyone who recognises the van from the CCTV photos, or who may have had building work done by people in a similar vehicle, is asked to call Bath police on 101, quoting crime reference number 41176/14.
