Take care this weekend, says council in Bath

Council chiefs have warned motorists in Bath that the wet and windy weather that caused havoc last night will return this weekend. And Bath and North East Somerset Council also urged people to avoid bad weather sightseeing, saying it will disrupt the work of the emergency services. B&NES said: "Although there is cautious optimism that the worst of the weather has passed for today (ahead of the weekend forecast) the same important safety advice still applies." It urged people to avoid unnecessary journeys, plan routes to avoid areas that have traditionally been flooded or are close to water courses, drive carefully and consider other road users especially when using waterlogged roads and to avoid parking close to water courses, and not to drive or walk into flood water. It added: "Residents or traders who believe they are in danger of their properties being flooded are urged to evacuate early – whilst it is still safe to do so. Do not wait until the last minute. "Members of the public should also avoid going to look at flooded areas as this can disrupt the efforts of the emergency services. The emergency services will continue to respond to priority calls during the day." Roads which had been closed at Upper Camden Place in Lansdown, and The Shallows at Saltford are now open again. The extra Christmas Park and Ride site (service 31R) at Bath Racecourse will not be operating tomorrow but other park and ride services are functioning as normal. The SouthGate car park is currently closed due to flooding, as is the one at Bath Sports Centre. Anyone with concerns should ring 01225 394041.
