Staff at the Royal United Hospital put on their best singing voices and appeared in a music video. As part of NHS Change Day staff from all departments sang their own song to the tune of It's Such a Perfect Day by Lou Reed. The song was aimed at encouraging people to make a pledge to improve patient care at the RUH. Staff gathered outside the Lansdown Restaurant to watch the clip. Some of the pledges that have already been made include reading to patients on the wards, planting flowers and smiling at everyone. Programme manager Hester McLain has pledged to read stories to patients on the wards. She said: "As a member of the management team, I don't get much chance to get involved in the frontline services. "I thought this was a nice idea to give a little bit back. "I have two children and have read many bedtime stories, so I thought it would be nice to read stories to patients on the children's ward. "If everyone made just a small pledge it would make a huge difference." NHS Change Day is call for action for NHS staff started by clinicians. The idea was to get as many people as possible to pledge to do one thing to make the NHS better. Pledges could be big or small, personal or professional but had to make a difference to patient care. Staff at the RUH have wrote their ideas for improving patient care on a tag. NHS Change Day started in March last year after a conversation on Twitter between junior doctors and NHS leaders about what clinicians could do to improve patient care. A total of 31,482 pledges were made in the South West last year, with the most popular being to smile at more people.
