Bath's Anya Shrubsole and her England Women team-mates are five wickets away from winning the Ashes Test match after reducing Australia to 57-5 at the end of day three in Perth.
It was another roller-coaster day at the WACA, with England recovering well from 18-3 before suffering another late collapse as they were bowled out for 190.
That left Australia chasing 185 for victory but, despite Shrubsole having an expensive session as she conceded 27 runs from six overs, the hosts were left reeling by Lancashire debutant Kate Cross (3-13).
Arran Brindle (35) and Natalie Sciver (23) had earlier repeated their first-innings heroics by sharing in a 54-run partnership to lift England after a poor start with the bat.
Jenny Gunn (44) and captain Charlotte Edwards (56) added a further 85 between them to take England to 158-5 but the remaining wickets tumbled for the addition of just 32 runs.
Seven of those came from Shrubsole, who lasted 24 minutes before being caught by wicket-keeper
Jodie Fields off the bowling of Rene Farrell.
