Bath campaigner Jo McCarron chosen to fight Kingswood for Labour

A campaigner from Bath has been chosen to fight a seat on the edge of Bristol for Labour. Artist Jo McCarron, who led the fight to defeat plans for the Bus Rapid Transit scheme through Newbridge, has been selected as the party's prospective Parliamentary candidate for Kingswood. The seat was held by Roger Berry for Labour from 1992 to 2010, when he lost to Tory Chris Skidmore. Mrs McCarron, who was educated at Hanham High School, said: "I am truly honoured to have been selected for Kingswood, the constituency where I grew up. I will be working hard alongside the local Labour Party to ensure Labour win back this key seat from the Tories in 2015." The mother of two, who was on the shortlist for the North East Somerset seat, describes herself as a fighter on her campaign website. In 2008 she was given the title of Campaigner of the Year in the Bath Chronicle Pride in Bath awards for her work with the campaign group Response2route, which opposed plans for a new bus route along an old railway path in Newbridge.
