A young cancer survivor has appealed for people to run the Bath Half Marathon for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Jade Francis, 24, from Trowbridge, was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma earlier this year and underwent two operations and radiotherapy.

She is supporting the Path2Bath Teenage Cancer Trust Team runners, who will be raising money to build a new unit for patients aged 16 to 24.

Jade, who is being backed by Bristol firm City Plumbing Supplies, said: "I received my treatment on an adult ward and although the other patients were nice enough they were much older than me and I would have preferred to have been treated with other people my own age who had similar interests and could help each other."

The £2.5 million unit is due to open next year in Bristol.

The Teenage Cancer Trust is the featured appeal for the race.

Trust regional fundraiser Bridget Woodard said: "Teenage Cancer Trust relies on donations and we need to raise thousands more towards our Bristol unit so we would love for people to dust off their trainers and be part of our team."

Entry to the team costs £35 and a minimum sponsorship of £250 is required.
