A group of rowers have made a little bit of boating history with a trip from Bristol to Bath and back again.
After taking part in a prestigious rowing regatta in Holland last year, and the 24th World Pilot Gig Championships around the Isles of Scilly this year, an eight-strong crew led by 63-year-old Andy Littler from Bristol Gig Club decided to try to row from Bristol Floating Harbour to Pulteney Weir and back in one day.
A gig crew had never before attempted the 40-mile, 12-lock round trip before.
They did it, taking 11-and-a-half hours, with Andy saying: "We were all completely exhausted by the time we got back to Bristol."
The club thinks this is also the longest distance a Bristol gig – a form of rowing boat – has been rowed in a single day.
