When Daphne and Geoff Richards stayed at a Bath bed and breakfast to celebrate their diamond wedding, the room looked very familiar.
For the last time the couple had been there in the 1970s, what is now One Three Nine in Wells Road had been their family home.
Daughter Jan Bird arranged for the pair to stay at the Victorian property which had been her parents' home for seven years.
When the Richards lived there, it was known as Leighton House, and after a lifetime of globetrotting reflecting Geoff's postings as a Ministry of Defence civil servant, it has always held a special place in their hearts.
Jan had booked them into their old bedroom, which they had not seen since moving out in 1979.
Former Museum of Costume head guide Daphne said: "We were astonished.
"Our daughter was very devious – we had no idea at all, she even teased us by driving past the house before turning back!
"The owners went the extra mile for us and we loved it, but I must admit it was a bit bizarre being under the roof of the old homestead."
She added: "Of course the new owners have updated it considerably, but there is still the same cosy, welcoming feel that I remembered.
"It has been extended and some rooms changed a lot, but it's still recognisable even after all these years."
While the couple lived in the property, they experienced the highs of raising a family and the lows of the cellar regularly flooding. They had to do some refurbishing of their own, but nothing on the scale of more recent changes – with an entire new wing to the rear, with the premises now boasting 11 bedrooms.
Jan had also managed to track down original handwritten and waxed documents relating to the sale of the land on which the property was built in 1873, and the couple presented them to current owners David and Annie Lanz.
