Bike rally staged by Corsham enthusiast in thanks for wife's cancer care at Royal United Hospital

A motorbike bike enthusiast is holding a bike rally to celebrate his wife's recovery from cancer.

Mark Rowell was inspired to raise money for the Forever Friends Appeal when his wife Amanda was diagnosed with cancer last year. She has since been given the all-clear, and Mr Rowell decided to use his love of motorbikes to raise money to help others.

He has organised the Ride of Support for September 21, across Bath, Wiltshire and Somerset.

Mr Rowell, from Corsham, said: "It's almost a year since Amanda and I sat in the consulting room of the Royal United Hospital being told the results of the biopsy. We are so grateful for the remarkable treatment, and we would really like to give something back."

Money raised will go towards a new cancer centre at the RUH, bringing cancer treatment under one roof.

There are three checkpoints along the route, with riders able to complete a course at their own pace, as long as they reach the last checkpoint by 5.30pm.

Registration fee is £10, payable to www.justgiving.com /Ride-Of-Support.

For details about the course visit www.rideof support.org.uk.

Meanwhile, doctors at the hospital have organised a concert to support people diagnosed with cancer. The Concert of Indian Classical Music is at the Guildhall on Sunday, September 15, from 5pm for the appeal.

Tickets are £15, or £10 for students, and are on sale at the RUH, The Mint Room on Lower Bristol Road, The Eastern Eye on Quiet Street, and Gills Newsagent on Newbridge Road.
