Buses coming into Bath will now avoid a city centre route because of problems with congestion.
First has announced that from this weekend, two services entering the city will be diverted away from Walcot Street and will travel over Pulteney Bridge.
The affected services are the 271/272 between Bath and Devizes and the 231/232 between Bath and Chippenham. The change will only affect the incoming journeys, with buses leaving Bath still using Walcot Street.
A spokesman for First said: "The area was becoming a concern for us because delays were occurring at the town end, near the shopping centre. Specifically those services coming in from Wiltshire were getting stuck at the point where traffic enters the car park. The change to use Bathwick Street and Great Pulteney Street for inbound journeys should help resolve this as the traffic there tends to move faster."
The changes are part of a raft of alterations First has announced for a number of services that travel in and out of the city to neighbouring towns. All changes come into effect from Sunday.
Commercial manager for First, Simon Ford, said: "The changes affect a number of services that travel in and around Bath, Wiltshire and Wells and we would urge people who use these local services to familiarise themselves with them.
"In some places frequencies are being improved, while elsewhere resources are being matched more closely with the level of demand for services.
"In a couple of cases, services are being withdrawn because they are poorly used or no longer commercially sustainable. There are some big improvements though, including the creation of a new direct service from Bath to Salisbury, which we expect to be popular with those people who want to visit the cathedral city in Wiltshire."
In 2011 the then Tory-led Bath and North East Somerset Council began moves to ban all traffic from Pulteney Bridge including buses amid concern over its structure. However, after taking office the Liberal Democrats overturned the decision and allowed buses and taxis to continue using the road.
Elsewhere people wanting to travel between Bath and Salisbury will be able to do so thanks to a new direct bus.
From July 29 service 265 Bath to Warminster is being extended to allow passengers to travel on to Salisbury passing through Heytesbury, Codford St Mary, Steeple Langford and South Newton.
