A depleted Bath side overcame Wheathill 3-2 in a thrilling Somerset Bowl first-round clash.
Simon Harris and Roger Nunn gained a solid 2&1 win to put Bath ahead in the match, staged at Farrington, before George Matthews and Jim Brown won 4&3.
The three remaining matches all went down the 18th fairway. Steve Francis and Phil Scilly, and Vince Shannon and Martin Warman were both beaten to leave Bath's Bow hopes resting on the shoulders of Richard Longhurst and new member Andy Neeve.
The latter – who experienced very different playing conditions at his previous club in Kathmandu, Nepal – had only signed up at Bath a week earlier but rolled a long putt close on the 18th to ensure the half needed for victory.
Bath 2nds suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat in their league match at Thornbury on the same day.
Lee Sumsion and Guy Gerrish found themselves up against a strong home pair and lost 5&3 but Nigel Crichton and 2nd team debutant Paul Adams fared better and won 3&2.
The third pair of Tony Macallum and Renton Ball fought hard but were always behind and went down 3&2 before Roy Aust and Steve Ford won 1-up on the last green.
Martin Davis and Lol Biro were 1-up after initially struggling on the greens in the deciding contest but eventually succumbed and lost 2-down.
Chris Perry won Division 1 in the seniors' medal with a return of 70, one less than Peter Glanville and John Hathaway in second and third places. Hathaway scored a hole in one on the fourth.
The winner of Division 2 was Geoff Thomas (69), with Mike Renton (70) second and Greg Burridge (72) third. Twos were recorded by John Tucker, Ian Hall and Burridge.
