Bath Rugby made a record loss in the last year, new figures show. The club has reported a loss, after tax, of £2.789 million, for the year to June 2012. Its losses have increased each year since it last turned in a profit, 2005/6, with a deficit of £1.82 million in 2009/10. Its financial results show that owner Bruce Craig agreed a £7.1 million loan at the end of June, after lending the club £4.765 million the previous year. Pharmaceutical magnate Mr Craig bought the club in 2010 and is its sole shareholder. The directors' report accompanying the results says the loss is in line with expectations. It says the club's directors - Mr Craig, chief executive Nick Blofeld and Tarquin McDonald - are confident that a broadcasting deal between Premier Rugby and BT Vision would boost its coffers in the current season. The club is preparing the ground for its new arena plans at The Rec, with the limited capacity at its historic home a constraint on its ability to return to profit. The report says: "The directors are heartened by the support the club is receiving for its proposals to develop the facilities at the Recreation Ground, the aim of which is to create additional capacity which is architecturally sympathetic to its historic surroundings, and which provides supporters with modern, comfortable facilities." The turnover of the club was£10.29 million, with its biggest costs being those of its 126 staff, of whom 72 were players and members of the team management. The total staff cost was £7.9 million, of which £6.9 million was the wage bill. The total cost in 2011, for 116 staff, was just over £7 million. The directors took a pay cut, from £155,942 to £133,952.
