It was all about the smaller animals at Bath Cats and Dogs Home over the Easter weekend. To mark Small Animal Awareness Week the home put on an event to teach people how to care for animals including hamsters, ferrets, rabbits and chickens. Children were able to handle the animals, while learning what to feed them, and how to look after them. Rosie James, aged nine, from Box, was there with her mum Sandra. She said: "I want a hamster for my birthday, so I am learning how to look after one. "Mum said if I have one I have to clean the cage out and look after it. "Hamsters are cute, my friend has one and I play with hers." The event runs until Easter Monday, from 11am until 3pm, and is free entry. As well as giving people the chance to meet small animals there will be a colouring competition, face painting and stalls. The Paw Store will have special offers, and complete cage and accessory packages for people wanting to adopt. Refreshments will be on sale, including tea and cake. Press officer Caroline Hook said: "We wanted to persuade people to come along and find out more about caring for their pets as well as the opportunity to meet and handle some of our smaller residents. "We don't just have cats and dogs here." As well as caring for120 dogs, and 120 cats at one time the Home also looks after 100 chickens and 50 or so rabbits and small animals.
