Health chief is leading by example

Among the runners on Sunday will be the man who wants to make Bath the healthiest city in the UK.

Sirona Care and Health chair Simon Knighton joined forces with The Bath Chronicle to launch the Get a Life campaign, encouraging people to take more exercise, eat healthily and give up smoking.

He said: "What is important is not running the half marathon or climbing Kilimanjaro but taking some exercise, whether it's walking to the shops or to work three times a week instead of once or taking a stroll in the city or the countryside at the weekend or an evening when the lighter nights draw in.

"For some, a target like the half marathon is a challenge while for others it would be a step too far – but I would like to see everyone setting themselves a personal goal as we try and make Bath and north east Somerset the healthiest place in Britain.

"Everyone who lives and works in the district can play their part.

"I would like to see leaders from organisations across the area deciding to take action and help us achieve this goal which has grabbed the imagination of so many people."

Mr Knighton is due to be joined on Sunday by – among others – B&NES Council leader Paul Crossley, cabinet members David Dixon and Simon Allen, and chief executive Jo Farrar.
