Timsbury Athletic recorded their first win for five months as they upset the form book by beating high-flying Broad Plain House 2-1 in Division 2 East of the Somerset County League yesterday. The home side produced some of their best football of the season in the first half as they raced into a 2-0 lead but it needed some sterling defensive work after the break to secure a long overdue success. The game was preceded by a minute's silence in memory of former Timsbury player and latterly Welton Rovers official Paul Ingram, who died at the beginning of the week. Right from the outset the home team showed plenty of endeavour and struck twice in the opening 15 minutes, with Dave Percival on both occasions keeping his composure after breaking through to beat keeper Stuart Jenkins. Mark Hancock went close to adding a third, while Timsbury custodian Joe Towells made fine saves from Aaron Selby and Josh Scadding to protect the two-goal advantage. The second half belonged to Broad Plain but a resilient home defence, well marshalled by Ben Hancock, meant they were restricted to just one goal, with full-back John Durbin rifling in a shot from the left in the 70th minute.
