A second new bridge has opened as a vital link on a new £4 million cycling and walking route.
Organisers of the Two Tunnels scheme say the completion of the bridge over Millmead Road and Dartmouth Avenue in Bath means the section through the Linear Park is now "almost perfect".
The bridge means that walkers and cyclists using the route which will link the city to Midford need not stray from the former Somerset and Dorset railway line.
People can now walk or cycle from the Bellotts Road Bridge to the entrance of Devonshire Tunnel in Bear Flat without having to cross any roads.
At the northern end of the route, the only work now needing to be done is on the last stretch to Lower Bristol Road and across to the Bath-Bristol Cycle Path.
The whole route - which will bring new life to two former railway tunnels - will be declared open at a festival on Saturday April 6.
The first new bridge – at Monksdale Road in Oldfield Park - was opened in April last year.
Work on Millmead Road bridge started soon afterwards but was delayed when unforeseen structural difficulties were encountered. The steel bridge was lifted into place in November but safety work lasted until last week.
Both bridges are replacements for old railway structures which formed part of the line which closed in 1966.
A ribbon was cut by two of the firemen who worked on the railway up until the time it was closed, John Sawyer and Les Hanks.
Mr Sawyer said: "This Two Tunnels project is a big thing for us, the firemen, who worked the trains going through this tunnels up to 1966 when the line was closed. We can't wait to see them open to the public. We will be there on opening day, with a big display of all our photographs and memorabilia from so long ago."
