Teams lined up as pancake racing returned to the streets of Bath for the first time in three years today.
Competitors from City of Bath College, Green Park Brasserie, Bath Street Pastors, Bath Racecourse, Fringe Arts Bath and Mission Burrito, as well as the Mayor of Bath, Councillor Andrew Furse, joined the relay race for charity in Union Street.
City of Bath College activities leader Scarlett Mosnier was behind the re-launch of the event in aid of Foodcycle (www.foodcycle.org.uk), a charity that aids people in poverty in the UK by providing them with food and water.
She said: "It used to be an annual event, but stopped in 2010. I thought it would be a good idea to bring it back for the first time in three years."
The two races were won by City of Bath College and Bath Street Pastors but there could be only one winner, with the pastors claiming the prize of the golden frying pan with victory in the final.
Mrs Mosnier, a committee member at Fringe Arts Bath, which holds a Visual Arts Festival every year, said: "We should have raised £180 in total from all the teams.
"In theory this should go on for every year from now on."
City of Bath College press officer Sirkka Huish was showing her support for the students.
"Scarlett has resurrected this event for a bit of fun for a good cause," she said.ELEANOR YOUNG
