Family of 11-year-old boy found dead at his home in Bath pay tribute to a "much loved and happy young boy"

The family of Jamie Gant, 11, from Twerton, have paid tribute to their son after his death at his home.

The statement said: "Jamie, was a much loved and very happy young boy who had a bright future which has been sadly cut short.

He will be deeply missed by family friends and all who knew him.

Please respect our privacy as the family come to terms with our loss."

Jamie was in year seven at Ralph Allen School, where pupils have been receiving support after police confirmed the schoolboy died at his family home in Twerton.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Police have confirmed he died at 3pm on Sunday, at his family home in The Hollow, Twerton.

Pupils at the school have received support from the Bath and north east Somerset educational psychology team and CAMHS, the children and adolescent mental health service.

A school nurse from Sirona Care and Health and the school's own pastoral team have also been on hand to speak to pupils at the school on Claverton Down Road.

Principal Tim Withers said the school was "shocked and saddened" to hear of the death of one of its pupils.

Mr Withers said: "The whole school community and I personally wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family.

"In Ralph Allen School we are doing everything we can to make sure that all students and staff are given appropriate help and support at this difficult time.

"All the advice from the professional services in these circumstances is that it is often best to carry on with normal routines, which the school is endeavouring to do.

"We are unable to say anything more and we would ask that everyone respects the privacy of the family at this time."

A letter from Mr Withers, dated September 30, has also been sent to parents and carers at the school.

In the letter, Mr Withers said he was aware of some "unhelpful and inaccurate speculation" and warned of the risk of inappropriate use of social media.

Ralph Allen, in Combe Down, is a co-education comprehensive secondary school with about 1,000 pupils.

Students and parents have been given links to ChildLine, Cruse Bereavement Care, Winston's Wish and YoungMinds.

Sharon Copsey, head of the NSPCC in the South West, said: "Children who need support can call ChildLine on 0800 1111 or visit childline.org.uk.

"ChildLine is a private and confidential service for children and young people. A counsellor will be available to talk about anything – no problem is too big or too small. The number is free.

"We also have a helpline for adults to call if they are concerned about a child. Trained counsellors are available 24/7 to provide help, advice and support on 0808 800 5000."

To call ChildLine, a free 24-hour helpline, dial 0800 1111.
