Pupils at Ralph Allen School are receiving support after the death of a year seven pupil.

Police have confirmed that an 11-year-old boy died around 3pm on Sunday, at his family home in The Hollow, Twerton.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Pupils at the school have received support from the B&NES educational psychology team and CAMHS, the children and adolescent mental health service.

A school nurse from Sirona and the school's own pastoral team have also been on hand to speak to pupils at the school on Claverton Down Road.

Principal Tim Withers said the school was "shocked and saddened" to hear of the death of one of its pupils.

He said: "The whole school community and I personally wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family.

"In Ralph Allen School we are doing everything we can to make sure that all students and staff are given appropriate help and support at this difficult time.

"All the advice from the professional services in these circumstances is that it is often best to carry on with normal routines, which the school is endeavouring to do.

"We are unable to say anything more and we would ask that everyone respects the privacy of the family at this time."

A letter from Mr Withers, dated September 30, has also been sent to parents and carers at the school.

In the letter Mr Withers said he was aware of some "unhelpful and inaccurate speculation" and warned of the risk of inappropriate use of social media.

Ralph Allen, in Combe Down, is a co-education comprehensive secondary school with around 1,000 pupils.

Students and parents have been given links to Childline, Cruse Bereavement Care, Winston's Wish and YoungMinds.
