When was the last time Bath Rugby were top of the Aviva Premiership?

Bath Rugby moved to the top of the fledgling Aviva Premiership table with an emphatic 45-0 mauling of fierce rivals Leicester Tigers at The Rec on Saturday.

The victory – which follows last week's 53-26 home success over London Welsh and the 29-20 opening day triumph at Sale Sharks – is the first time Bath have won the first three games of the season since the 2003-04 campaign.

Back then John Connolly's charges finished the regular season at the top of the standings only to lose 10-6 in a dramatic Premiership final at Twickenham to second-placed Wasps.

The last time they led the table this far into a campaign was in the 2008-09 season under Steve Meehan's watch. Bath were top after round ten in December 2008 before eventually finishing fourth.

Current head coach Mike Ford has seen Bath side lead the way during his tenure in charge thanks to last season's opening day triumph at Newcastle Falcons.

That match was the curtain raiser for the season on a Friday night and Bath were subsequently overtaken when the rest of the league got going over the remainder of the weekend.
