Ronaldinho has won the World Cup with Brazil and Champions League with Barcelona - and now he could be lining up against Bath City for Basingstoke Town in Vanarama Conference South.

Basingstoke - who won 4-0 at Twerton Park in the opening week of the season - have offered a contract to the 34-year-old, who is looking for a new club after being released by Atletico Mineiro in Brazil.

The deal, which includes flights and accommodation, is now being considered by the player whose free-kick famously put England out of the 2002 World Cup.

The Basingstoke Gazette quotes Town marketing director Simon Hood as saying: "Discussions have been had and there is an offer on the table. Now it is up to Ronaldinho to decide whether he wants to take us up on it.

"He is on a free transfer and if he wants to get into English football, I cannot think of a better way to do that than by signing for Basingstoke Town."

City are due to visit Basingstoke on January 24, although that is subject to FA Trophy commitments.
