Video: Bath businesses join the ALS ice bucket challenge charity appeal

Businesses in Bath have been supporting the popular ALS ice bucket challenge.

The online video craze shows people having buckets of ice tipped over them as the campaign aims to draw people's awareness to Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as motor neurone disease.

In Southgate shopping centre, Topshop brand manager Sam Lopez-Gyles helped her store raise £50 for the charity.

The store was nominated by the Topshop in Bristol's Cabot Circus.

"Staff have been doing it individually but we thought if we could do it as a team and a store for the charity that would be bit of fun for the guys.

"It is good for a bit of local competition and fun for everyone," she said.

Apple, H&M and Urban Outfitters have been nominated.

Executive chef at Bath Ales Alice Bowyer completed the challenge before nominating The Hop Pole pub, Grillstock, and Graze in Cirencester.

Most patients with the disease die from the illness within five years, however theoretical scientist Professor Stephen Hawking, 72, was diagnosed with the condition at the age of 21.
