Welcome to Wednesday, hits you like a ton of bricks doesn't it? Nevermind that now because as you tumble back to earth The Great British Bake Off is here to provide a buttery biscuit bass for you to land on.
Yes tonight on BBC 1 at 8pm see's the second instalment of The Great British Bake Off or as I'm now calling it, Don't Cry It's Only Biscuits. It got a little bit intense last week didn't it, so in the spirit of keeping things a bit easier the contestants are this week charged with creating their own savoury crackers to go with cheese. Jokes aside making crackers is something I didn't think people could do anymore, they're just so tiny. During this challenge the nervous bakers are told to 'push the flavour', advice so conceptual it could've stepped out a Lovecraft novella. It's only a few blows to the head away from being told to use the force.
Following the warm up round we have the technical challenge which has broken many a wannabe baker. This week they have to prepare Mary Berry's Florentines, with a chewy caramel sauce and brandy-snap texture. All while Mary observes with a stern eye that puts you in mind of a Sith Lord. Still, it's all good fun as long as no one wells up at the elimination ceremony which last week closely resembled something from Eyes Wide Shut.
If you enjoy your TV with a nice side helping of the absurd then don't forget to Sky+ 100 Year Old Drivers that starts over on ITV at the same time. ITV have sold us a line here, the documentary follows a number of drivers that are just short of reaching the century mark. For a whole hour. Which is what I imagine being stuck behind one of them on your way to the shops must feel like.
