Bath Rugby Junior Membership Club celebrates its first birthday with family fun morning at the Rec

The drizzling rain did little to dampen the spirits of families on Sunday morning as Bath Rugby celebrated the first anniversary of its Junior Membership Club.

Both members and non members of the club were welcome to join in the fun on the pitch which hosted a number of activities and challenges for children to get involved in.

The morning event included an inflatable passing target, an inflatable assault course, and various rugby skill challenges, and tag rugby.

The membership club, which is sponsored by Jaffa, is aimed at children up to 15 years-of-age.

Members receive packs with goodie bags and newsletters and can take part in games and competitions, as well as watch player videos online.

Community rugby manager Steve Middleton said he was pleased to see so many families turn up to the event on a Sunday morning and that membership figures have increased.

"We are hoping to get even more children signed up through this event and those who do are in with a chance of becoming a mascot at one of our games next season.

"The atmosphere has been fantastic and we had families queuing outside the gates well in advance of us opening at 10.30am. The kids have been fantastic and we have a really good sign up on the membership.

"It has been a great family atmosphere for the whole morning. Everyone has been having fun and it's great to see so many families out on a Sunday morning.

Tor RFC junior player Ronnie Wilson-Stone,9, said: "It's been a fun morning. I really enjoyed the hoops challenge. I've been into rugby for about a year now and I want to play rugby when I get older.

Brother and sister George, 12,  and Alice Hiscock, 14, said:"It has been fun and we have had pictures taken with a few of the players.

"It's been great and we are still making our way around to all of the events. We are big rugby fans and we come to watch Bath Rugby whenever we can.

Father of two Alistair, from Bristol, said: "It's been a good morning and I am very pleased with what they have put on for everyone. It's been nice to come over. I am a season ticket holder here and my son comes with me two or three times a season."

Bath Rugby's season kicks off away to Sale on September 6 (2pm).
