Bath Golf Club's 2nd team battled for a memorable victory at promotion-chasing Shirehampton.

In difficult conditions – dry, fast-running fairways, with wind and intermittent rain – Bath won three and halved one game on the 18th green.

Shirehampton had only been beaten once in Division 7 before the contest.

Cameron Organ and Will Warman were first off for Bath, eventually succumbing 2&1 to a strong Shirehampton pair.

Lee Sumsion and Grant Organ had a rollercoaster of a round but eventually emerged 2-up.

Roger Nunn and Tony McCallum 4-down at one stage but battled back to win 1-up, while Nigel Crichton and Martin Cashnella controlled a tight game to win by the same scoreline.

Roy Aust and Steve Harper recovered from 3-down to halve their match.

Bath 1sts were edged out 3-2 at Kingsdown.

Aust and Nunn started well and were dormie 2-up but errors on the tricky final two holes allowed the Kingdown pair to earn a half.

Bath's next two pairs of Richard Longhurst and Andy Cottle, and Steve Francis and Ewan Caldwell were both ahead at various stages in their matches but both lost 3&2.

Simon Harris and Troy Scott started strongly and ran out 6&4 winners, the highlight being a 35ft birdie putt on the undulating 7th green to match the home pair's gimme.

The last pair of Peter Forster and Simon Freeman needed to win to halve the overall match. With the scores level, an error of judgement on the 17th caused a loss of both ball and hole for the Bath pair, although they won the last to earn a half.
