Club captain Joe Garry is fitting Mullingar Trophy winner at Lansdown

Club captain Joe Garry was the fitting winner of the Mullingar Trophy at Lansdown.

The prize was introduced to Lansdown 20 years ago when Garry took a group of members to his club – Mullingar – in Ireland and the two exchanged trophies.

Garry had never won it before but made sure he did so in his year of office – despite having a hip operation in March.

He shot a gross 76 for a nett 67 and finished two shots clear of Andy Matthews with a net 69.

Division 2 was won by Roland Jenkins with a nett 68 , just one shot ahead of Bill Rose.

Gary Thompson took the honours in Division 3 with a nett 67, with Terry Hughes close behind on 68.

Meanwhile, Lansdown' smen played for the Colmer Cup over two days.

The participants had to decide whether to play in the Saturday medal only or come back for a second round the following day to play for the cup.

Jason Dorley-Brown won it with a two-under-par nett 140, but only on countback. Jake Eade was second and Steve Jackson third.

The medal was won by Gary Burrows with a fantastic nett 62 which put him 6 shots clear of the field.

Dave Newport won Division 1 with a nett 69, two shots ahead of Tony Britton with Jake Eade one further back.

Mike Tippet topped Division 2 on countback after he and Chris Sparkes shot nett 69s. Jackson was third with a 70.

Pete Waller took second place behind Burrows in Division 3 with 68, one shot clear of John Jotcham.

The ladies' captain's day staged by Jo Francis-Pope attracted 30 players, with others joining for the meal and prize- giving in the evening.

Shirley Gooding won the Lady Captain's Shield and Silver Division with 39 points, with Val McFarlane second on countback from club champion Laura Leach on 36.

Junior Alex Ratchford won the Bronze Division with 39, finishing two shots ahead of Pearl Evans. Clare Mornement took third spot with 35.

The straightest drives were hit by Gooding and Jean Russell in their respective divisions.

Captain-elect Margaret Ruxton clinched the Winifred Bowlwith a nett 75, pushing Alison Hutchins into second place on countback.

The JJ Evans Plate for the seniors was won by Dave Pollinger with 42 points, with Lyn Wyatt two shots back in second place.

Dave Chapple took third on countback from Rod Thomas after both came in with 37 points. Roy McCullough was a further shot behind in fifth.
