Flooding fails to halt annual lunch at Claverton Pumping Station

It's a Christmas tradition and they weren't going to let a little flooding stop them.

Enthusiasts who maintain Claverton Pumping Station managed to stage their annual Christmas lunch at the canalside building, despite floods of up to 7ft in recent weeks.

The lunch was held in the 200-year-old building's mess room workshop, on the floor above the bearings and wheels of the pump.

The pump building flooded four times in as many weeks in December.

The group looking after the pump, which lifts water nearly 50ft from the River Avon into the Kennet and Avon Canal, says the wet weather has been "quite exceptional".
