Bath's Samantha Murray got to experience playing on a show court at Wimbledon - but sadly not for very long as she was brushed aside by former champion Maria Sharapova.
Team Bath MCTA ace Murray had chances to break Sharapova's serve in the early stages of Tuesday's ladies singles match on Court No 1 - watched live by millions on BBC1 - but was unable to take them and was then powerless to stop the French Open champion easing to a 6-1 6-0 success in 58 minutes.
Wildcard Murray - who is ranked 247 in the world, 242 places below Sharapova - could have been forgiven for being nervous going into easily the biggest match of her career.
But she made a confident start, forcing break points in Sharapova's first two service games which she was not able to take.
Murray also came through her first service game relatively comfortably but that was to prove her only success as Sharapova stepped up a gear, picking off her opponents' second serve with ease as she raced through the next 11 games.
The Russians' only wobble came when she was serving for the first set, with Murray showing great character to save two set points with superb returns and force a break point.
The defeat was Murray's second first-round exit in as many years, following her 2013 loss to Italy's Camila Giorgi.
