Thousands of people turned out on the streets of Bath to enjoy a night of free entertainment to kick-start Bath's annual music festival.
The annual Party in the City, the opening event of Bath International Music Festival, saw hundreds of live music acts at venues across the city,
Bath Festivals marketing and communications manager Liz Eyles said that the team was delighted with this year's Party in the City.
She said: "We are all enormously proud to have organised such an exciting and varied evening across the whole city.
"The diverse range of events and the wonderful weather brought the whole community out to celebrate the opening night of Bath International Music Festival and we hope that everyone enjoyed the evening as much as we did."
The festival, which runs until May 26, showcases a range of events featuring orchestral and classical experts as well as jazz, folk, roots and world musicians, innovative collaborations and unique commissions.
Meanwhile, to tie in with the launch of the Bath Fringe Festival next week, photographer Lee Niel organised a 'Beards of Bath' photo project to celebrate the best of Bath's weird and wonderful facial hair.
The event at the Bell Inn on Walcot Street brought together unique facial hair from around Bath, with portraits being taken in a specially designed studio in the pub garden.
Mr Niel said he has been thinking about doing a portraiture project for some time, and was happy to tie it in with the Fringe festival.
He said: "One day I just thought of beards.
"Walking around Bath in the last year or so, I noticed an awful lot of people with beards. They've very much in fashion.
"There's definitely a beard pride vibe going on. These guys are so proud of their beards, you can really see that in the pictures."
Mr Niel got in touch with Fringe organisers and set up a Facebook page to promote the project.
He said: "It all accelerated fairly quickly and a lot of people seemed to be talking about it, and it sort of snowballed."
Beards of all shapes and sizes turned up for the project, which Mr Niel said was a massive success.
The photographs will be displayed in an exhibition on Walcot Street as part of the Fringe festival, which runs from May 23 to June 8.
