Leroy Houston won the top prize at Bath Rugby's annual awards on Wednesday evening. Number eight Houston was named players' player of the season after a brilliant debut year at The Rec. The 27-year-old Australia A international also claimed the best forward prize at the event at the Pavilion. Fly-half George Ford was the best back, while there was also an awards double for Matt Garvey. Bath supporters voted flanker Garvey as their player of the season following a series of impressive displays in his first year in Blue, Black and White. The 26-year-old also picked up the best try prize for his touchdown in the LV= Cup pool game against Exeter Chiefs at The Rec, finishing off a fine team move. Youngster Ollie Devoto also got his hands on two awards on the night. Devoto, who can play at fly-half, centre and full-back, has burst into first-team reckoning this season and was rightly named most improved player and Academy player of the season. Matt Banahan was the top try scorer after crossing the whitewash nine times throughout the campaign and Mat Gilbert was named the community player of the season. The Spirit of Rugby award, which honours those in the local community who work tirelessly at grassroots levels, was presented to Jimmy Deane for his efforts with the Bath Rugby Foundation for many years. There was also a special honour for Nick Abendanon, who will leave Bath for Clermont Auvergne in France this summer after nine years at the club. The full-back was presented with his 200th club cap by his parents.
