Canoeists who did a fundraising river litter sweep were amazed at the amount of rubbish they found.
The group covered the stretch of the Avon between the Riverside Inn and the Jolly Sailor pubs in Saltford.
They said litter had been building up on the banks of the river for some time, but had only been exposed once floodwaters receded.
David Woolsey, one of the organisers of the event, said: "The litter pick was a struggle, due to the nature of the waste collected. We collected the inevitable hoard of discarded plastic bags from supermarkets, but also, much of the waste was baby wipes and sanitary products."
