"Next few weeks crucial to Bath City's future," says director of football Adie Britton

Adie Britton has challenged Bath City's board to look beyond the club's debt problems and invest in improving the team during the summer. The director of football, who had a spell as interim chairman in 2011, is aware of the financial pressures facing City as a series of loans from directors come up for repayment. However, Britton insists the club is in a healthy position thanks to the ownership of Twerton Park. And he thinks a slight increase in the playing budget would ensure City are able to build on an encouraging 2013-14 campaign, which saw them finish just three points adrift of a play-off place. "The next few weeks off the field are going to be the most important weeks of the season," Britton said. "It's a summer where we'll look around the football club for everybody to contribute. "It's down to budget, more than anything else, as to whether we can get the players we want. The club makes big losses and just on gates alone we're not going to sustain the level we're at and get where we want to be. "But if you look at the asset base, we are stronger than a lot of clubs in League 1 and 2. Our's is purely a cashflow problem and unlocking the asset we have."Click here to listen to Adie Britton's full thoughts on Bath City's financial future.
