Children have been learning how to fold paper into cranes.
Students at the Languages United language school in Walcot Street made 1,000 origami cranes under the instruction of Japanese teacher Mieko.
Children were also able to take part and help make a brightly coloured bird.
They will be given to the Forever Friends Appeal at the Royal United Hospital as a good luck present.
The 1,000 cranes are held together by string.
An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds 1,000 origami cranes will be granted a wish.
In Japan, the bird is one of the mystical or holy creatures and is said to live for 1,000 years.
That is why 1,000 cranes are made, one for each year.
The appeal is raising money for a new cancer care unit at the hospital, bringing together all oncology services under one roof.
