TV preview: What to watch on Easter Saturday

Like the bad guy in any great monster movie Britain's Got Talent will get us all eventually. Like I said the other week, dog act, dance act, bad comedian, sob story. The cycle never ends, it's like waves crashing on a beach. Except instead of waves it's piles of cash and instead of a beach it's Simon Cowell's pockets. But wait, that's not the sound of the sea air it's the maniacal cackling of millions of idiots, mooing and applauding whichever act is dancing against the clock as the judges light their crosses. What I'm trying to say is that our lineup tonight kicks off with Britain's Got Talent at 7pm on ITV. Moving swiftly on to BBC 2 at 9pm and it's University Challenge: Champion of Champions which is basically the Champions League with Adrian Chiles swapped for Jeremy Paxman. Like many people I like nothing better than lucking my way through the show answering all of five questions correctly then sitting back rather smugly for the rest of the evening. Meanwhile at 9.25pm on Channel 5 we have Britain's Favourite Detective, one of those poll shows that disguises itself as something people want. I wouldn't mind if it was something to flick on before the news but this monstrosity rumbles on for the best part of three hours. With the really good stuff, ie Sherlock, Poirot and Columbo, held back until the last knockings. Feel free to enjoy that until tonight's main event comes on Channel 4 at 10.50pm in the shape of the TV premier of the Shane Meadows documentary The Stone Roses: Made of Stone. This is a real coup for Channel 4 as Made of Stone is a real work of art. Shane Meadows is a great film maker and does a really good job of capturing the band as naturally as possible in the run up to their reunion concert in Manchester's Heaton Park. So, a few stumbling blocks but other than that the Easter run of form continues.
