Canoeists and kayakers are taking to the River Avon this weekend to fight a "real litter problem" and raise money for charity.
High rainfall has caused waters to rise substantially in recent months. Now the water levels have receded and left a trail of litter on the river banks.
A group of five local paddlers will spend two days armed with litter pickers. At the same time they aim to raise around £500 for the Youth Adventure Trust, which works to give vulnerable young people self-esteem and confidence.
Organiser Vanessa Hiller said: "Our main aim is to clean up the river, it makes us unhappy to see this beautiful area strewn with old cans and plastic."
The group will work on a three-mile stretch of river around Saltford, travelling between the Jolly Sailor and the Riverside Inn between 9am and 5pm on Saturday and 10am and 3pm on Sunday.
There are collection boxes in both pubs, or you can donate online at justgiving.com/riveravoncleanup.
