Where on earth did Saturday go? Probably swallowed by a nation mourning this loss of Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway and The Voice. Why do the good die young? Speaking of death Channel 4 are gearing up to scare us all to sleep with a documentary about the secret history of the Black Death and how it might be coming back today. Scary stuff indeed until you realise that cases of the Black Death in the last twelve months number in the single digits.
At 6.30pm BBC 2 are flogging the Olympic horse with Inspire: The Olympics Journey, presumably thinking that if the two week, four channel blanket coverage didn't get you on side maybe another half hour will do the job. We'll be meeting some athletes and I imagine it'll be something nice to have on over the Sunday roast if nothing else.
Playing the spectator more and more these days come the weekend, Channel 5 is sitting back and watching the other kids fight among themselves by showing films back to back. We've got Ladder 49 and The Next Three Days playing back to back, at least giving you something to flick over to and nod at during the breaks in other more invested shows.
As always, leave it to Louis Theroux to save the day. His three part LA stories series of documentaries comes to an end tonight with Among the Sex Offenders which looks at California's uber-strict regulations for controlling sex offenders after they leave prison and are placed on parole. During the documentary Louis visits hostels to talk to parolees as well as the people charged with monitoring them, and asks whether the restrictions keep society safer and when, if ever, it is right to give sex offenders a second chance. As usual it's a shame that there were only a few of these made because Theroux is a master filmmaker, but it's nice that we can at least end the weekend on a high.
Tomorrow, Game of Thrones or something.
