Bath's Anya Shrubsole was named Player of the Tournament despite missing out on Women's World T20 glory as England were well beaten by Australia in Sunday's final. Shrubsole took one wicket to finish as the tournament's leading wicket-taker, three clear of her nearest rival, but it was not enough to stop the Aussies overhauling a poor England total in Bangladesh. "It's been a really good tournament," she said. "As a team we can be proud of what we've done - just keeping it simple and it seems to have worked. "Congratulations to Meg [Lanning] and her team, they were the better team today." At the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Australia won the toss and chose to field and England made a slow but steady start before Charlotte Edwards was dismissed with the score on 23 after 5.4 overs. England seemed to be recovering but then lost three wickets for 12 runs to leave them reeling on 67-4 after 12.5 overs. The middle order were unable to up the run-rate and two more quick wickets meant England still hadn't brought up three figures after 19 overs. Shrubsole came in during the final over and hit a single as England finished on a disappointing 105-8 from their 20 overs. With England needing early wickets in reply, Shrubsole gave them hope by claiming the scalp of Jess Jonassen in the third over. However, Australia continued to score well above the required rate and Lanning struck 44 off 30 balls to take them just short of England's total with more than five overs in hand. Although Lanning and Alex Blackwell were dismissed in quick succession by Natalie Sciver - who became the tournament's second best wicket-taker as a result - Ellyse Perry struck the winning runs in the 16th over to give Australia victory by six wickets. Shrubsole finished the tournament with overall figures of 13-98 off 24 overs, as well as taking two catches. England captain Edwards paid tribute to Shrubsole's contribution. "Anya's been exceptional, all the bowlers have been," she said. "[Australia] bowled very well and they came out and batted good. We just weren't enough today. "We never got going, kept losing wickets at key stages. 105 was never going to be enough in a World Cup final."
