Hundreds run miles for Sport Relief

Hundreds of people put on their running shoes to raise money for Sport Relief. Both young and old took to the cycle circuit at Odd Down for the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile. Participants were able to run one, three or six miles, with all the money raised going towards funding Sport Relief projects both in the UK and abroad. Families enjoyed spending time together, while being out in the fresh air supporting a charity. Brother and sister Rosie and Sam James were keen to get involved. Rosie, six, ran one mile, while nine year old Sam did three. Mum Jane said: "We have taken part for a few years now. "It is a really nice family thing to do." Six year old Jack Andrews, from Bristol, ran one mile with his dad Paul. They completed in in nine minutes. Mr Andrews said: "This is our contribution to sport relief. "We have had fun, it's a good event to take part in." Katelyn Brown, 11, from Oldfield Park was joined on the three mile route by her dog Poppy. She said: "It is lots of fun, and is good to raise money for Sport Relief." Four-year-old Joshua Lane, from Combe Down, raised £150 by running one mile. Mum Claire said: "Joshua wanted to get into running, and we thought this would be a good opportunity to get him started. "He raised £150 all by himself, so we are very proud." The event was supported by Bath Rugby players George Ford, Francois Louw, Charlie Ewels and Tom Woolstencroft, who started the runs. The one mile course was around the new 1.5km cycle circuit, while participants in the three and six miles also ventured into the surrounding woods. Everyone who took part received a Sport Relief medal. To ensure participants are ready to run (walk/hop/skip!), Aquatera Leisure will lead a group 'warm up' to get hearts pumping and limbs limber! There will also be concessions stands on the day to provide the perfect 'cool down' for participants to have a victory treat and to provide sustenance to loyal supporters. B&NES council cabinet member for neighbourhoods councillor David Dixon (Lib-Dem, Oldfield) took part. He said: "Bath and North East Somerset council is proud to support the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile as we're committed to helping people to get active. "From teeny-tots with their mums and dads, to super sprinters up against the clock there's something for everyone. "The good thing about this event is that people with a range of fitness levels can take part."
